The Under 11 Girls final was contested between Katoomba and Blackheath. Katoomba Primary was top of the table with 2 wins, 2 draws and 1 loss whilst Blackheath managed 4 draws and 1 loss. The girls gave it their all and came out with a 2 all draw at full time. This meant a penalty shoot-out and it brought out the nerves and the tension was high. Blackheath won the shoot-out 1-0.

The Under 11 Boys had some fantastic games leading up to the final with some amazing goals scored from all sides. Lawson produced 15 goals in their games whilst 2nd place St Canice’s totalled 8 goals. The Lawson boys were fearsome and played some entertaining futsal for the crowd but St Canice’s continued to have some great runs up the court continuing to keep the Lawson Goalkeeper on his toes. However Lawson scored one goal and kept the St Canice’s boys wondering how they could get an equaliser. The full time siren sounded and Lawson’s 1 goal was enough to be premiers over St Canice’s

The Senior Girls saw an impressive 11 team’s contest the title to be crowned winners. The girls made some strong runs, skilful turns and impressive defence to have the crowd on their feet throughout the day. With many smashing goals scored the girls have truly embraced the sport and taken the skill level to a new high. Our Lady of the Nativity Lawson completed their rounds with 2 wins and 3 draws whilst St Canice’s had 4 wins and 2 draws to be top of the table in their respective pools. Both the girls’ teams were fantastic ambassadors for their school and showed great sportsmanship and courage during the final match. However St Canice’s were too strong and put 3 goals away leaving OLN unable to put any in the back of the net.

The Senior Boys were contested by all schools showcasing 12 teams with the contest in both pools tight right up until the last rounds. Some of the teams had slow starts and struggled to put the goals away early leaving the final rounds tight with many schools capable of making the finals. Blackheath held off the Katoomba A team to make the finals up against St Canice’s who narrowly kept ahead of Katoomba B to be top of their pool. The boys had a very end to end match with many shots being saved courageously by the keepers or shots going just above the crossbar or near misses to the sides. Both teams contested the ball well and had many oohs and ahhs from the crowd. With the score at 1 all at the final whistle, the boys set themselves up for a Penalty shootout. Taking nothing away from the keepers the penalty takers shot with pin point accuracy and kept their teams hopes alive at every shot. But all matches must end and Blackheath come up triumphal over St Canice’s winning 2 -1 in penalties.

The Under 9 girls were a delight to watch in their games as they were persistent and determined in all that they did. Some amazing goals were scored and some that were totally unexpected and brought joyous celebration from their team mates. Leura came second in the pool with Korowal taking out first place. With a draw and a loss to Leura in the rounds the final was certain to be intense. The score was held even for most of the final but Korowal went strong and put the score in their favour. Leura’s never give up attitude continued until the final whistle with Korowal taking up the gold 1 nil.

The Under 9 boys had both Leura B and Blackheath A scoring 12 points in their respective pools bringing them together in the final. The final match saw both teams not giving the opposition an inch and they held their ground until the final whistle. Of course not having to end the day any other way than to have a penalty shoot-out, was just to give the centre another level of heightened excitement. It was a shootout that left no onlooker disappointed with Leura scoring 4 against Blackheath’s 3.

The Under 10 girls played with enthusiasm and were precise in their execution of their passes and defensive stance. Some many fine goals were put in the back of the net and some thrilling saves and blocks executed in play. The finals saw Leura and Blackheath playing for the gold medal and both teams were determined to be crowned victorious. Leura’s pre game talk must have been one to be written up in the history books as Blackheath had no answer for Leura’s strong and determined play. Blackheath replied with 1 goal however Leura maintained their strong attack and scored 4 to be the champions on the day.

Finally the Under 10 boy’s teams of Blackheath B and Leura met giving the crowd a match to remember with many skillful goals being scored. These 2 teams have some wonderful players who have mastered the art of fine ball skills, turns and passes. The game see sawed with both sides scoring 2 each. The referees where getting very savvy with these penalty shoot outs and made sure both sides were given equal opportunities. With the intensity peaking and the players feeling the nervous tension both sides stepped up to the penalty spot with calmness and a clear picture of what was expected. It was a tough shootout but both sides where valiant and kind in their approach and execution. Congratulations to Blackheath B side who won against Leura 3 – 1.
