Lithgow Library Learning Centre will be holding an exciting program of speakers and activities embracing 'Press for Progress', the theme of the 2018 International Women’s Day on Thursday 8 March with guest speakers Lynne Morton and Julia Burns.

“In keeping with this year’s International Women’s Day theme of ‘Press for Progress’, this event will showcase successful women who truly believe in gender equality,” said Lithgow City Council Mayor Stephen Lesslie.

Lynne Morton has a passion for telling stories about inspiring women and has been one of the team of librarians at the Jessie Street National Women’s Library since 2012. The Library, which has been run by volunteers for almost 30 years, collects and preserves material and promotes the awareness of the cultural heritage of Australian women.

Julia Burns is the Managing Partner of a very successful Human Resources consulting firm in Canberra and a graduate of Lithgow High School. Julia Burns Consulting supports organisations and managers to build productive and harmonious workplaces. Julia’s career highlights include addressing the United Nations General Assembly on gender equality; managing VIP transport services for the Sydney Olympics; and leading workplace relations negotiations and significant change management initiatives in many other government agencies.

The event commences at 11.00am and will finish with refreshments, the library ukulele group and an open forum discussion on working towards the creation of a women’s shed in Lithgow.  Bookings are preferred for catering purposes and can be made by contacting Lithgow Library on 63529100.
