Railway Parade, Hazelbrook. One of the sites identified for the upgrade program.
Preparatory work for much anticipated upgrades at Hazelbrook is now underway, with topographic surveying having commenced.

The NSW Government-funded Hazelbrook Village Upgrade program will address critical issues identified in the Hazelbrook Masterplan and improve local amenity for the benefit of residents and business owners in Hazelbrook.

The upgrade program, which is currently in the planning and scoping phase, is anticipated to be completed by 2027.

The program will deliver:

  • A new accessible link from the lower carpark to the village centre
  • Footpath upgrades and improved seating
  • New bicycle parking rack and water re-fill station
  • Street tree plantings and landscaping
  • Improved crossings and lighting for better pedestrian safety
  • Public art and new cultural and heritage interpretation
  • Improved navigational signage.

Blue Mountains Mayor Mark Greenhill said: “Access is a critical issue for the Hazelbrook village centre and this program promises to deliver safety improvements for both drivers and walkers.

“The upgrades will highlight the best of Hazelbrook and help to ensure the village centre meets the community’s needs, making it a safer, more accessible, and inclusive place to visit and gather.”

Council recently held a community stall in the village centre to discuss the planned upgrades with the community, and to hear about people’s experience of the village centre.

Interested community members can also share their experience through an online survey which is open until 5pm, Friday 8 November. Responses to the survey will help to inform the delivery and future evaluation of the upgrade program.

The Hazelbrook Village Centre Masterplan was created following extensive community consultation in 2017-2018. It provides a framework for infrastructure renewal and improvements to the public domain of the Hazelbrook village.

Council was awarded funding via the NSW Government’s Western Sydney Infrastructure Grants program to deliver the improvements at Hazelbrook. This is in addition to funding for improvements at Katoomba, Glenbrook, and Blaxland.

Member for Blue Mountains, Trish Doyle, said: “I am pleased that the NSW Government has provided funds to Blue Mountains City Council for these important upgrades.

“Working with the Hazelbrook community to ensure that these improvements support an accessible vision for the village centre and reflect the needs of residents, is critical, and I thank Council for their engagement,” Ms Doyle said.
