Pre-Loved Fashion Market, Performances & Street Art Coming to Springwood In September

Stomping Ground: Rummage & Roam, is a free community event taking place in Springwood on Saturday 17 September.

Stomping Ground: Rummage & Roam will present a vibrant pre-loved clothing and vintage fashion market with creative, eco-friendly workshops and local maker stalls offering a range of unique, sustainable handmade items.Applications to be a stallholder for this event are now open, presenting the unique opportunity for community members to clear out and recycle preloved designer and vintage clothing and/or accessories.Sustainable fashion entrepreneur and stylist Sal Isaksen is heading up the clothing event. She said: “This is a fun and fabulous opportunity to recycle, reuse and rewear! Free up your wardrobe and allow your once-loved pieces to find their next home.”

A BYO picnic area will be set up in the Hub forecourt for families to enjoy a program of entertainment, including live performances from Counterpoint Children’s Ensemble, Hands Heart & Feet, Kanimbla Quartet and Crow Mountain. Next door, Braemar Gallery will be open all day with three exhibitions on show and artist talks by Tobin O’Bree and Julia Butler. Julia will also run a free felting workshop for registered participants.

To celebrate new additions to the public art of Springwood Town Centre, a Street Art Stroll will lead visitors to a new public art installation at the School of Arts Square by Nastia Gladushchenko, and onwards to the launch of a new community mural at DBL Ristretto café led by local artists Ailie Banks and Merindah Funnel. A live program of singer songwriters will also feature at the School of Arts Square, putting a spotlight on local talent.

Visual and performance artists WeiZen Ho and Alan Schacher will be presenting their community engagement and creative research projectMemory Walks, culminating in a performance procession exploring local stories and the ritual of walking. The artists invite community to contact them if they would like to share a favourite local walk in the lead up to the event and attend a series of free making workshops at the Blue Mountains Theatre.

Blue Mountains Theatre program leader Louise Hales said: “This event feels like a real celebration, bringing community together to share stories, enjoy local arts and culture and even discover an item of pre-loved clothing. Spring in Springwood is such a beautiful time of year and we can’t wait to be part of the first iteration ofStomping Ground: Rummage and Roam.”

The events atStomping Ground are funded under the Bushfire Community Recovery and Resilience Fund through the joint Commonwealth/State Disaster Recovery Arrangements, with additional support by the Restart Investment to Sustain and Expand (RISE) Fund – an Australian Government Initiative.
