Planning Progresses on Mulgoa Road Castlereagh Road Upgrade
Minister for Western Sydney and Member for Penrith Stuart Ayres said widening Mulgoa Road is crucial to support a growing Penrith. The additional lanes will reduce travel times along Penrith’s most important North-South road corridor.
“Already carrying almost 4,000 cars in the morning and afternoon peak, we need to boost capacity now on Mulgoa Road and upgrade intersections to decrease travel times between commercial developments like Penrith Panthers and land releases at Glenmore Park and Thornton,” Minister Ayres said.
“The full upgrade will provide three lanes in each direction along the full 6.5-kilometre route along with upgraded intersections, including traffic-light intersections at Andrews Road, Coreen Avenue and Glenmore Parkway.
“I encourage the community to check out the consultation report for the proposed future upgrade of Mulgoa Road / Castlereagh Road between Glenmore Parkway at Glenmore Park and Andrews Road at Cranebrook now available online.
“Through a staged delivery to widen the entire 6.5 kilometre corridor, we’ll minimise disruption and ensure we tackle the priority areas first, making Penrith an even better place to live and work.”
Work to prepare new concept designs is now under way and the community will be invited to view a review of environmental factors mid this year. Roads and Maritime will also incorporate the road corridor in to Penrith City Council’s Local Environmental Plan.
Member for Mulgoa, Tanya Davies said the progressive upgrade of the full 6.5-kilometre corridor will bring huge relief to road users and offer faster travel to an improved motorway network.
“This upgrade will increase bus travel times with priority at intersections, new pedestrian paths and cycling connections and I encourage community members to keep up to date on this hugely transformative project.”
