Pianoforte – Information Session on Legal Issues for Older People

Pianoforte is an important community education program that deals with the issue of elder financial abuse. This presentation explores issues older people might face when planning for the future and provide information from experts on where to get help and advice. The program is a partnership between the State Library of NSW, Legal Aid NSW, Seniors Rights Service and other legal assistance agencies including community legal centres.

“While no one wants to think that someone they love could intentionally manipulate you into handing over your hard earned money, it is a sad fact of life that it happens all too often. This information session at the library will be of great benefit to everyone who is approaching retirement and organising their finances,” said Mayor Ray Thompson.

Lithgow Library will be hosting the session during Seniors Week on Tuesday 19 February 2019, between 10am and 12pm. Included in the presentation is the screening of the play Pianoforte. The play explores issues older people might face when planning for the future such as wills, power of attorney and elder abuse. The video presentation is followed by morning tea and a panel discussion which includes lawyers, and other services with expertise in elder abuse. Brochures and other information will also be available on the day.

Bookings are preferred and can be made by contacting the Lithgow Library on 63529100.
