Perrottet Condemns Bob Debus Over Calls to Put Green Extremism Above Community Safety
“They are adopting a reckless all care but no responsibility approach to the local community,” Mr Perrottet said.
“Increasing the height of Warragamba by 14 metres is a cornerstone of the Flood Strategy chosen by a team of experts as the best way to protect people in the Hawkesbury.”
Mr Perrottet said the Hawkesbury-Nepean Valley was considered to have the highest single flood exposure in NSW and delivering a long term strategy to reduce risk was one of his key priorities.
“This project will protect people, their homes and the region’s important infrastructure from major flood events,” he said.
Mr Perrottet called upon the Federal Labor Member for Macquarie Susan Templeman to confirm her support for the people of Hawkesbury by committing to raise the height of the dam wall.
“Susan Templeman needs to do the right thing by her community, come out supporting the strategy and stand up for the lives of the people of her community,” Mr Perrottet said.
“She needs to come clean on where she stands because she can’t be all things to all people, being a greenie in the Blue Mountains and a conservative in the Hawkesbury.”
Minister for Western Sydney and Member for Penrith Stuart Ayres said safeguarding life and property across the Hawkesbury-Nepean Valley – from Bents Basin near Wallacia to Brooklyn Bridge is a key priority for the NSW Government.
“While we have allocated $58 million to improve awareness through evacuation signage, improving flood forecasting and integrating flood risk management in our regional planning, we have those on the other side blatantly ignoring this significant risk to lives and homes.”
The NSW Government has allocated $58 million to implement the first phase of the flood strategy, which involves improve awareness through evacuation signage, improving flood forecasting and integrating flood risk management in our regional planning.
