New MTNS MADE magazine reflects the best of Blue Mountains creativity
The new look magazine retains its core mission to showcase and promote the creative industries of the Blue Mountains, while broadening its scope to include a range of stories on the vibrant arts and cultural scene of our distinctive World Heritage region.
Blue Mountains Mayor Mark Greenhill said: “Established 10 years ago, MTNS MADE is already a recognisable face of our flourishing creative community with its bold and distinctive branding.
“Now this thoughtfully curated, beautiful magazine has 88 pages to promote an even more extensive selection of this vibrant community.
“It’s locally designed and produced and celebrates the best of our creative industry sector, while providing a voice for many of our artists.
“It will appeal not only to our local community, but to anyone interested in the creative industries in other regions and cities of Australia, and it will be a valuable resource to visitors to our region.”
The theme of this year’s magazine, ‘exchange’, strongly aligns with this Council’s focus on sustainability, looking at how artists can support each other and share their skills.
MTNS MADE showcases the hum of activity in the Blue Mountains where inspiring people are engaging in truly sustainable work in meaningful and creative ways.
This first issue of the annual magazine showcases a range of Blue Mountains creative sectors with many in-depth profiles, accompanied by stunning photography, illustration and design.
The stories focus on a variety of local artists and creatives including ceramicists, weavers, metal workers, performance artists and dancers, musicians, fashion designers and jewellery makers working with recycled materials, filmmakers, writers and poets.
Stories include the art of zines, book reviews, a look at ten years of the Blue Mountains Theatre + Hub, and a travel story on a curated Blue Mountains daytrip from Sydney, highlighting some of our eclectic destinations from bottom to top.
“I’m proud that MTNS MADE is now fully maintained by the Blue Mountains City Council, providing a permanent home and sustainability for the brand,” Cr Greenhill said.
“The MTNS MADE magazine will be an unparalleled source of information for Blue Mountains creativity, its people and industry,”
MTNS MADE is available from mid-August at selected book, magazine and gift retailers, until sold out.
