New Funds to Turn Up Live Music in the Blue Mountains
Member of the Legislative Council and Blue Mountains resident Shayne Mallard MP and Minister for the Arts Don Harwin announced last week, over $61,000 in support from the Music Now Contemporary Live Music Fund for local musos in the Blue Mountains.
Mr Mallard said the news is music to the ears of both the grant recipients and music fans in the Blue Mountains.
“I’m thrilled our Government is getting behind local musical talent in our community. I’m always impressed by the quality of musicianship in the Blue Mountains and this assistance will help to grow that talent.
The Blue Mountains recipients of the Music Now Contemporary Live Music Fund are ‘Live at the Village Music Festival Springwood’ which received $38,837 in government funding and Bulgamada: Big Sing Blue Mountains’ which received $22,676 in government funding.
Live at the Village Music Festival will be a one-day music festival featuring ticketed indoor concerts and free outdoor events held in an arts and entertainment precinct or village, centred around Springwood’s Blue Mountains Theatre and surrounding venues including the Red Cross Hall, Bunker Restaurant, Orient Hotel and Presbyterian Church Hall.
Bulgamada will bring the experience of an outstanding choral, songwriter and multiartform event to singers and audiences in the Blue Mountains and greater Sydney. It will culminate in two concerts featuring a diverse choir of 100-150 singers, distinguished guest artists from Indigenous, migrant and refugee backgrounds and supporting musicians.
Minister for the Arts Don Harwin says the fund will amplify live music in NSW. “This is excellent news for musicians across the State with the funding unlocking 30 new live music events and staging performances from over 650 musicians,” said Mr Harwin.
“The musicians have spoken to us and we have listened - I’m thrilled to announce this assistance for talented musos across our State.”
Recipients of the live music funding cover a diverse range of genres including hiphop, classical, blues, jazz, folk, pop and electronica.
Funded projects are spread across the State including 13 for metro Sydney, ten in regional NSW and seven in Western Sydney.
The fund is a partnership between Create NSW and the Office of Responsible Gambling, Liquor and Gaming as part of the NSW Government’s commitment to growing a vibrant, safe and diverse night-time economy.
