New exhibition marks reopening of revitalised Wentworth Falls School of Arts

Curated by Cassandra Hard Lawrie, Aerie draws parallels between the social and cultural history of the School of Arts and MAPBM’s own evolution in contemporary art practice.
The exhibition features new works by Fiona Davies, Tom Isaacs, Sean O’Keeffe, Naomi Oliver, Katya Petetskaya and Alan Schacher (with Sam James), alongside selected pieces from previous MAPBM exhibitions.
The exhibition runs until 14 September 2025 and is open Friday to Sunday,10am to 4pm.
The event marked the official opening of the revitalisation project delivered by Blue Mountains City Council, with funding support from the NSW Government’s Western Sydney Infrastructure Grant Program.
Blue Mountains Mayor Mark Greenhill welcomed the reopening of the much-loved community venue.
“The revitalised Wentworth Falls School of Arts will help sustain the Blue Mountains’ vibrant arts scene for years to come,” Cr Greenhill said.
“Council is proud to support local creativity through upgraded facilities, while preserving the heritage and charm that makes this venue so special.”
The upgrades have significantly improved the building’s functionality and safety, enabling it to host a wider range of artistic and cultural activities, including live music, film, and educational programs.
Council worked closely with regular venue users throughout the project to ensure improvements met the needs of the creative community.
Enhancements include new seating, improved amenities, technical upgrades and the careful restoration of heritage features.
“The Wentworth Falls School of Arts has long been a cornerstone of the local arts community. With these upgrades, it is well positioned to continue to support creativity, connection and cultural expression across the Blue Mountains,” Cr Greenhill said.
State Member for Blue Mountains Trish Doyle MP said, “I’m thrilled to see this building in Wentworth Falls have its grand reopening with a fantastic new exhibition and community open day.
“The State Government has proudly funded $650,000 for Blue Mountains City Council to deliver the $692,713 revitalisation of the School of Arts Theatre and Hall.
“The audio-visual upgrade will enable the School of Arts to become the beating heart of an arts loving, creative community.
“This facility can now host live music concerts, children’s shows, comedy and more local community and school productions.
“These projects are part of our commitment to supporting community wellbeing by providing quality public spaces that promote social connection.”
