New Book: Native Fauna of the Greater Blue Mountains World Heritage Area
Since European settlement, an amazing 432 fauna species, including 68 mammals, 254 birds, 74 reptiles and 36 frogs, have been reliably recorded from this vast area of over one million hectares.
The book describes the environment and fauna habitats of the World Heritage Area and details the status, local distribution and ecology of each fauna species. Species that are threatened at state or national level, as well as those that are declining or increasing locally, are identified. Over 200 of Peter’s colour photos, 20 of Kate’s illustrations and two locality maps are included. A checklist indicates in which of the World Heritage Area’s eight constituent reserves (Blue Mountains, Gardens of Stone, Kanangra-Boyd, Nattai, Thirlmere Lakes, Wollemi and Yengo National Parks and Jenolan Karst Conservation Reserve) each species has been recorded.
Next year marks the 20th anniversary of the listing of the Greater Blue Mountains World Heritage Area. This book celebrates the diversity, scientific value and conservation importance of the area’s fauna.
Native Fauna of the Greater Blue Mountains World Heritage Area, 172 pages, RRP $35, is available direct from the authors (email) or from local bookshops and visitor centres.
