The pathways are proposed for Blackheath, Bullaburra, Glenbrook, Hazelbrook, Leura, and Woodford, in areas identified as high priority locations under Council's Pedestrian Access and Mobility Plan (PAMP), and the Blue Mountains Bike Plan 2020. 

The links are part of a wider program to deliver around 30km of new active transport connections in all 27 Blue Mountains town centres via more than 90 priority projects.

The active transport links program will make it easier for Blue Mountains residents and visitors of all ages and abilities to walk, wheel and ride as part of their everyday journeys, and to feel comfortable, confident, and safe in their experience.

The community is invited to provide feedback on concept designs before a more extensive design process is undertaken and the designs are finalised. Feedback can be provided through an online survey, which will remain open until 5pm Tuesday 17 December.

Blue Mountains Mayor, Cr Mark Greenhill, said: “Our community’s vision is for a safe and accessible network of pathways so people of all ages and abilities can get around and enjoy our streets and neighbourhoods. 

“Our streets belong to every person who walks, rides, plays, and drives. These pathways will improve our streets with safe and sustainable links between town centres and key destinations across the Blue Mountains.” 

The Pedestrian Access and Mobility Plan (PAMP), and the Blue Mountains Bike Plan 2020, are also currently under review and an updated integrated transport strategy will be developed in conjunction with the delivery of the active transport links program.

Active transport is any means of transport that does not involve the use of a motorised vehicle. This includes walking with the use of walking aids, using wheelchairs and mobility devices, and cycling and riding, including children’s bikes with training wheels. 

These projects, worth $3.2 million, are funded through the NSW Government’s Western Sydney Infrastructure Grants Program.

Member for Blue Mountains, Trish Doyle, said: "I am pleased that the NSW Government is supporting this program.

“This is an exciting and important step towards creating a more connected and accessible Blue Mountains,” Ms Doyle said.

“These new active transport links will promote a healthier and more sustainable way of moving around. I encourage everyone to get involved and share their thoughts on these concept designs."
