Neighbourhood Centre Week
Neighbourhood Centre Week, 9-15 May, is a nationwide initiative to celebrate the role of neighbourhood centres in local communities across the nation.

This year's theme is: Building resilience by bringing people together

Blue Mountains Mayor, Councillor Mark Greenhill said: "Neighbourhood Centres are special part of our community. They're a place of inclusion - anyone and everyone is welcome, and members of the community are encouraged to help in the centre's organisation, management and use.

"Council values and supports the work of our local centres, providing subsidised premises for neighbourhood centres to enable them to deliver important services to the local community.

"Over the past two years of extreme events and the COVID-19 pandemic, our local community has faced challenges and severe isolation in many ways. As we all look forward and continue the task of rebuilding and recovery, neighbourhood centres place a central role in helping create a more resilient and connected community.

"As Mayor, and on behalf of Council, I am proud to recognise and continue to support the invaluable work of neighbourhood centres in this way".

There are six neighbourhood centres in the Blue Mountains, located in Blackheath, Katoomba, Lawson, Springwood, Winmalee and Blaxland. Each provides services and support to their local communities.

Neighbourhood centres provide opportunities for group activities, learning new skills, accessing food support and meeting with others for a cuppa or chat. Your local neighbourhood centre is also a great place to volunteer.

"Everyone is welcome to be involved, get in touch to see what they can do for you and how you can get involved," continued Mayor Greenhill.

"If you're not familiar with what's on offer Neighbourhood Centre Week is the perfect time to find out more."
