Job hunters seeking meaningful work that helps their community yet also gives them an ideal work/home balance can find it in their own backyard with Wendy’s Home Care.

The care support organisation, which offers in-home aged and disability care, is looking to recruit up to 10 casual staff in the Blue Mountains.

An information session will be held at Lawson on Wednesday, March 7.

Operating between Parramatta and Lithgow, Wendy’s Home Care is an approved service provider for many non-government agencies, government services including the National Disability Insurance Scheme, and Veterans’ Home Care and an aged care provider approved by the Federal Government. It also services private clients and now offers government subsidised home care packages through MyAgedCare.

Wendy’s Home Care general manager Alannah Norman said the casual positions were ideal for people wanting a career or lifestyle change which offered a more flexible work/home balance but involved learning new skills in a rewarding community role.

"The work our staff do supporting the elderly and people with a disability is vital to helping people maintain their independence to stay in their homes and gives families peace of mind to know their loved ones are well cared for.

"We know that the Blue Mountains region has a wealth of community-minded people who are looking to get involved and support local people so we are looking to increase our care worker team."

Staff are matched to clients to suit their needs, which may vary from domestic assistance (housework, shopping and meal preparation), personal care, respite, emergency or short-term care, monitoring and supervision, social support and transport.

"It is also an opportunity for our clients and staff to make connections in a changing region, where lots of people are new to the area and looking to forge relationships and find their place in the Blue Mountains community."

Community care roles would especially suit people who had worked in a high intensity facility such as a nursing home, who would like to work more flexible hours close to home and give one-on-one support to clients, she said.

However, people new to the industry were also encouraged to apply.

"We’re not looking for particular qualifications. We’re looking for practical people with a great attitude and life skills, who love people and want to help them.

"We can train you for the job."

People from varied cultural backgrounds are encouraged to apply, especially those with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander backgrounds.

Care workers must have a reliable vehicle, a mobile phone, a current driver’s licence and a first aid certificate (or be willing to obtain one within the first three months of employment) with additional opportunities available to those who have Certificate III in Aged, Home Care or Disability Care and/or other industry qualifications.

All applicants will need to provide a working with children check if relevant and criminal records check.
