The Blue Mountains will soon have access to an expanded mobile pink slip trial which allow vehicle owners to have safety inspections done at a time and place that suits them.

Member of the Legislative Council and Blue Mountains resident Shayne Mallard MP said the NSW Government was making it easier to access important services in the regions.

“The expansion of the trial demonstrates the NSW Government’s commitment to improving convenience for communities in the bush,” Mr Mallard said.

“This is a real win for the Blue Mountains, with safety inspections for cars, motorcycles, boat trailers and caravans able to be done at the convenience of owners.

“We know this appeals to many younger motorists and families as they often rely on their car to get to work, school and other commitments.

“We also know it will be popular with some of our less mobile customers, as they can now get the check done at their home.”

Mr Mallard said the trial was being expanded in response to a successful pilot trial in metropolitan zones of Sydney, Newcastle, and Wollongong, along with the Central Coast.

“In the first 16 months of the trial 4297 mobile pink slip services were completed,” Mr Mallard said.

The trial will be expanded to include Wagga Wagga, Tamworth, Port Macquarie, Blue Mountains and the Southern Highlands.

The fee for the pink slip will be a fixed amount, equivalent to what a customer visiting a mechanic would pay. Customers will need to agree with the provider on the time, location and call out fee for the service.
