Mallard Calls on Labor to Get Behind Western Sydney Airport
In a speech to Parliament this week Mr Mallard highlighted the opportunities the new airport and Aerotropolis would bring.
“Western Sydney is a focus of development and growth for State and national governments, already attracting public investigation of more than $20 billion across transport, health and education infrastructure.”
“An Investment Attraction Office will be established to attract international companies, with global defence and security leader Northrop Grumman Corporation the first to commit to the Aerotropolis.”
“The New South Wales Government has also signed two international investment agreements with global corporate giants Mitsubishi Heavy Industries and the Sumitomo Mitsui Financial Group, which have committed to be a significant part of the Aerotropolis,” Mr Mallard said.
Mr Mallard called upon Labor controlled Blue Mountains Council and the local Labor state member of Parliament Trish Doyle and federal member Sue Templeman to get in step with their party colleagues and support the airport and related Aerotropolis.
“Penrith and Liverpool communities have jumped on board seeing the jobs and investment opportunities. Blue Mountains Labor members continue their opposition damaging the opportunities for the local community and businesses,” he said.
Mallard asked what is Labor afraid of?
“I have to ask why the Blue Mountains and Blacktown councils continue to oppose the new airport at Badgerys Creek and the tremendous opportunities the airport and associated Aerotropolis will bring to the region over the next generation. Both councils are controlled by Labor and both have local Labor members of parliament who are clearly not onside with their State and Federal party colleagues and not supportive of the airport.”
“If Trish Doyle and her Labor mates on Council do not take their heads out of the sand then the community will just bypass them as irrelevant on the issue of jobs and investment from the new airport and Aerotropolis,” Mallard concluded.
