Malcolm Turnbull to plant 29th tree in Prime Ministers’ Corridor of Oaks
Blue Mountains Mayor, Mark Greenhill said, “Malcolm Turnbull is a leader of principal in both politics and the private sector who is prepared to take a stand and champion the causes he believes in. He is a staunch defender of democracy, campaigns for integrity in media, and is an advocate for action on climate change.
“I look forward to hosting Mr Turnbull and invite the Blue Mountains community to attend the official tree planting as we commemorate his prime ministership.”
Date: Wednesday 19 March 2025
Time: 12pm – 1pm (arrive by 11:45am)
Venue: Prime Ministers’ Corridor of Oaks, Jackson Park, Faulconbridge
Federal Member for Macquarie, Susan Templeman MP, will join the Mayor in welcoming the former prime minister at Faulconbridge.
The ceremony is a family friendly event with plenty of informal standing room for the general public. Limited seating will be available. Residents are encouraged to catch the train, walk or carpool as there is minimal street and public parking in the Corridor of Oaks precinct.
The Corridor of Oaks is a heritage conservation area of state and local cultural significance and is a rare example of commemorative planting in Australia dedicated to prime ministers.
“Each oak tree has been planted by a Prime Minister or their closest living relative as a living memorial to Sir Henry Parkes, who is known as the Father of Federation and is buried in Faulconbridge,” Cr Greenhill said.
“It is a nationally recognised tradition.”
The first oak tree was planted on the 12 September 1934 by then-prime minister, the Rt. Hon. Joseph A. Lyons. The English Oak was chosen for its symbolic strength and long lifespan.
To date, 28 trees have been planted, with the last planting done by The Hon. Tony Abbott AC in August 2024.
Malcolm Turnbull was the 29th Prime Minister of Australia and held the position from 15 September 2015 until 24 August 2018.
