Local Drug Action Team for Lithgow
The Local Drug Action Team program supports organisations to build or extend partnerships in their community and use local knowledge to deliver evidence-informed alcohol and other drug harm prevention projects that are tailored to the needs of their local area.
The Lithgow Drug Action Team is a partnership between Lithgow Community Projects, Lithgow City Council, the local Drug and Alcohol Service, Ted Noffs Foundation, Dianella Cottage, Nepean Blue Mountains LHD, the Primary Health Network, Lithgow Tafe, Lithgow Police, and the Lithgow Information and Neighbourhood Centre.
Local Drug Action Teams receive an initial $10,000 funding from the Australian Government and are supported by the Alcohol and Drug Foundation to develop a Community Action Plan be tailored to the needs of Lithgow.
“I welcome the time and commitment of the Lithgow LDAT to preventing alcohol and other drug harms in our community and look forward to seeing the Community Action Plan for Lithgow,” said the Mayor of Lithgow City Council, Clr Stephen Lesslie.
The Alcohol and Drug Foundation’s Chief Executive Officer, Dr Erin Lalor also welcomed the latest successful applicants into the Local Drug Action Team Program.
“This is a fantastic opportunity for the Lithgow LDAT to use local knowledge to develop evidence-based responses to prevent alcohol and other drug related harms in the community,” said Dr Lalor.
“The Local Drug Action Team Program recognises that all local areas are different and that community-led initiatives are critical when it comes to preventing harms caused by alcohol and other drugs”, said Dr Lalor added.
The Local Drug Action Team Program is part of the Australian Government’s investment of $298 million over four years under the National Ice Action Strategy.
By 2020, there will be up to 220 LDATs across the nation, with a focus on remote, regional and at-risk communities.
