Landing your first job can be tough. You have to find the right role and opportunity. Then put forward a dazzling resume and application, followed by that treacherous wait by the phone for an interview. Then once that interview has been extended; fret about what to wear and practice what to say. It may seem like climbing Donkey Mountain, but with the help of personal branding coach Debra Wylde you’ll be landing that job in no time.

Future Finders will be hosting two workshops in the school holidays aimed at helping young people aged 15 – 25 years old get the skills to confidently apply and interview for jobs. The first workshop will be held on the 2nd of October from 10am – 3pm at the Lithgow Library and will be a practical session aimed at drawing out achievements and skills that could be highlighted on a resume, as well as how to submit a cracking online application that will get the employer's attention. Participants will leave having completed their resume as well as gained an understanding of how to research potential employers and apply that knowledge to their skillset and application.

“Even if you haven’t had a job before, there are always skills and attributes you can highlight to a potential employer,” said Community Development Officer Kristy Lenon. “The trick is how to identify and promote them.”

The second session will be held on the 3rd of October at Lithgow Library from 10am – 3pm and will look at how to prepare for an interview, including what to wear and methods of responding to questions.

Lunch and a certificate of attendance will be provided. Numbers for both workshops are limited.

To secure your place contact Council’s Community Development Officer Kristy Lenon Kristy.lenon@lithgow.nsw.gov.au or phone (02) 6354 9999.
