Lithgow Library Celebrates History Week 2020
To explore the question of “History: What is it good for?” Lithgow Library is hosting an online guest speaker event during History Week from 5 – 13 September 2020 on the importance of historic maps. A series of posters developed by the Council’s Strategic Planning will also be on display at the Library.
The posters highlight how critical the history of our community is to our local identity, our inclusive community and our economic wellbeing. They will be on display in the front window of the library and available online on the Library’s webpage.
This year’s special guest is Brian Fox, well known as one of the ‘Bushexplorers’ involved in the exploration, research and publication of an extensive series of bush walking guides that include well researched history of the areas covered.
A retired cartographer, Brian will talk to us about the importance of historic maps, help us to understand what maps are ‘out there’ and how to interpret and get the best out of them in the way of historical information. This will be an interactive online event discussing questions such as ‘Who said old maps are not important? What secrets do they reveal? Researching a local place, city, town, suburb, obscure locality? Also covered will be those family history research questions - where did my family come from? What land did they occupy?
Please join us online for this Zoom Event at 11:00am on Thursday 10 September, 2020. To book this event and receive your link and passcode go to the Lithgow Library Website Events Online Author Talk.
This event celebrates and increases community awareness of the cultural diversity and rich history and heritage of the Lithgow LGA.
