Lithgow Halloween 2017 - Great for Lithgow

The fifth Lithgow Halloween has proven that Lithgow knows how to party with lots of families turning out in spectacular outfits to enjoy all the entertainment on offer.

“Lithgow Halloween received fantastic media coverage from television, radio and stories in the Sydney Morning Herald as well as the Brisbane Post. I am very proud of the efforts from Lithgow City Council staff and volunteers for making the event a huge success.  Council will be holding a debrief on the event and is interested in how Halloween can be further consolidated in the events calendar and grown in the future” said Lithgow Mayor, Councillor Stephen Lesslie.

Once again the effort people went to with their costumes made you feel that you were in a Hollywood movie production for the next spooky blockbuster. Local businesses have already reported excellent trade on the night with Lithgow accommodation providers indicating strong business.  

In previous years there has been some discussion about attendance numbers.  For the 2017 event a digital system was used that identifies mobile phone signals in the event area for the duration of the event.  A calculation is then applied to estimate the number of children at the event, who are not likely to have a mobile phone. Whilst this is a conservative approach it is endorsed by Destination NSW as an accepted method of calculating crowd numbers for events that are not ticketed.   The calculated numbers for the event this year were 11,345.  This represents approximately 50% of the Lithgow Local Government Area and for an 8 hour regional event this is considered to be a significant achievement that Lithgow can be justly proud of.

Mayor Announces Halloween 2018 Date and Signals Research into Complementary Events

Mayor Stephen Lesslie announced 27 October 2018 as the date for Halloween 2018 and has advised that research is about to commence on possible future events that complement the Halloween Festival.

“Councils’ administration team have been developing terms of reference for a number of projects to be considered by the newly formed Economic Development Committee, with one important project focusing on a “Calendar of Tourism events” to further showcase our attractions and businesses.” said Cr Lesslie.

 “Council has received a number of responses from people with either relevant experience or qualifications that are willing to participate on the working parties that will assist Council with the necessary research” fain Cr Lesslie.

 “I hope by Halloween on the 27th October 2018, Lithgow will be in a much better position with an events calendar either in place or nearing completion based on the successful recipe that we had for Halloween this year” said Cr Lesslie
