Lithgow Economic Development Planning Progresses
In June 2017, Lithgow Council established a single economic development division within its administration, and at its meeting on 25th September 2017 reformed Council’s decision making structure with the formation of a “whole of Council” Economic Development Committee, integrating responsive decision making with a greater administrative capability.
“Whilst this process was under way, Council was also having discussions with the NSW Centre for Economic and Regional Development who have advised the Lithgow LGA will stand as its own Functional Economic Region for the purposes of strategy development, which will work to the benefit of the Lithgow community,” said Mayor Lesslie.
“Council’s General Manager and staff today met with representatives of the NSW Centre for Economic Development at Lithgow and have agreed a Strategy Development process which will commence with a briefing to Councillors by the CERD and Council Staff on the 16th October 2017 followed by community and business interaction, with input used to refine the draft strategy for the LGA,” said the Mayor.
“This process has been well timed with
- the administration’s review our 2015 economic strategy since June with the aid of an independent consultant,
- the pending release of the latest census data and
- the positive assistance from the Department of Premier and Cabinet through their Centre for Regional Economic Development,” said Mayor Lesslie.
