As part of its ongoing support for those in Lithgow community who are affected by dementia, Lithgow City Council invites you to come along to our Dementia Alliance morning tea on November 14 at the Lithgow Library.

Following its decision to become a dementia friendly community, Lithgow City Council is pleased to announce the next step in its support for those with dementia and the people who care for and support them. The Lithgow Dementia Alliance will hold its first get together at Lithgow Library at 10:00am on Thursday 14 November 2019. If you have dementia or care for and support someone who has, please come along and meet other people making the dementia journey. Please bring a plate of food to share.

Dementia Australia statistics tell us that there are more than 400,000 people in Australia living with dementia and dementia is the single greatest cause of disability in Australians over the age of 65 years. At the time of the 2016 Census, Lithgow had a population of 21,090 people of which 22 per cent were aged 65 years and over. Most of us will be touched by dementia at some time during our life.

Mayor Ray Thompson is concerned about the members of the community living with dementia “It can be very isolating both for people living with dementia and those caring for them. This is a great opportunity to get together and build that support network we all need to continue engaging in the community”.
