If you love your pets then microchip them it's FREE to Lithgow City residents during March 2019.

Microchipping your dog or cat helps keep them safe and means you can be reunited much quicker if your pet is lost. In NSW all dogs and cats must be microchipped by 12 weeks old or before being sold or given away (whichever happens first).

For the month of March free microchipping will be held at Lithgow Animal Shelter, off Geordie Street, Lithgow, Mondays to Fridays from 3pm to 4pm. There is a limit of two free microchips per resident.

Puppies and kittens under the age of 6 months must present with a copy of their health passport or immunisation certificates to be eligible for this service. Free microchipping is not available to impounded animals.

“Should your cat or dog ever go missing, microchipping helps reunite pets with their owners. It’s an important and simple step in pet ownership, along with registering your animal and ensuring your contact details are up-to-date.” Mayor of Lithgow, Councillor Ray Thompson said.

“We know how important it is to have your pet microchipped and that’s why Council is offering this free service. Each year Lithgow Animal Shelter receives a number of dogs and cats that have been abandoned. This number typically increases after the festive season, with many people giving pets as gifts and not realising the level of care needed to raise a pet.” added Mayor Thompson.

This month is also a great chance for owners to check their contact information is up to date and talk to staff on responsible pet ownership, including lifetime registration. Have you checked your pet’s microchip information lately? The easiest way to update your pet’s microchip details is online.
