COVID-19 has stressed the functioning and models of service delivery across both public and private medical services. This, in part, has led to a decision of the Lithgow Community Private board to cease operation by the end of 2022.

The Lithgow Community Private Board have already enquired of the Nepean Blue Mountains Local Health District (NBMLHD) as to their ability to absorb the services that the Lithgow Community Private delivers. It is the Council’s understanding that the Local Health District will consider alternative service delivery models which will maintain services and mitigate impacts on employment.

“The Council is profoundly concerned by this news,” said Lithgow City Council’s Mayor, Councillor Maree Statham. “Council will do all it can to ensure that there is no loss of employment or reduction in the level of services currently available to the community”

“Lithgow Council calls for commitment to the ongoing provision of this service,” continued Mayor Statham. “Council will work closely with government and our Local Members, all relevant government agencies, and other stakeholders for a focus on the continued delivery of these important local medical services.”

Lithgow Community Private is a modern not-for-profit, community owned Private Day Surgery and Specialist Centre. Opening in 1999, the organisation has provided the community with a high standard of service, led by a team of local professionals.
