Lithgow Celebrates the International Day of People with Disability

By Lithgow City Council
Posted: 20 Nov 2021
Lithgow will celebrate International Day of People with Disability this year with an afternoon of events and activities at Lithgow Library from 1.00pm on Thursday December 2.

While last year’s celebrations were limited and online due to covid restrictions, this year’s events will be bigger and better.

Mayor Ray Thompson is looking forward to the event: “It’s been such a long year with limited social activities, so it will be a great opportunity to reconnect with our friends and with the community. Our residents living with a disability are valued members of this town and community”.

The activities planned include a screening of the Ability Award short films, demonstrations and games on the Library’s new Tovertafel – a magic table of interactive games, art workshop spaces, a free sausage sizzle prepared by LINC’s disability services team and, so we can dance the afternoon away, Lithgow’s first ever Silent Disco.

The day will also celebrate the launch of a new fortnightly drop in space for people with disabilities, their carers and families. Everyone is welcome.

Lithgow City Council is committed to enabling all people to participate in every part of community life. This commitment is outlined is great detail in Council’s Disability Inclusion Action Plan, which can be accessed via the Council website here

For further information about the event or to get a copy of Council’s Disability Inclusion Action Plan, please contact Council’s Community Development Officers, Ali Kim or Cristina Portilla on (02) 6354 9999.
