Lithgow CBD Revitalisation – Community Update
While wet weather has pushed the construction program back by one day to the 22nd June 2018, Council and its contractors are still ahead of the original practical completion date of 20th July 2018.
While the southern side of the Main Street – Eskbank Street intersection has been opened to traffic, some works are still required to complete the road surface, footpaths and kerb and gutter of the northern side of this intersection. It is hoped that, subject to RMS approval of submitted signal designs, Eskbank Street intersection will be complete by 15th June 2018.
Between now and the 22nd June 2018, a number of decorative inclusions will be installed within Cook Street Plaza as part of this project.
The Marjorie Jackson statue will be reinstalled on a custom plinth in approximately two weeks. The statue will be installed in a prominent, forefront location to ensure an awareness of Lithgow’s proud history.
Large, green trellis walls and associated self-watering infrastructure will be constructed shortly as the footings for this feature are currently being designed. These features will be significant in softening the amenity of the public space.
A catenary overhead lighting system will be installed. This lighting will serve to replace the existing light posts and will allow for the hanging of special event lighting as required to further encourage the use of this facility.
Lastly, combined with a number of removable planter boxes and bench seating, a seat will be constructed underneath the existing tree adjacent to the toilet unit.
As is the case with all construction projects, inclement weather and external approvals processes may cause some delays to the program identified above. Where at all possible, Council and its contractor will continue to minimise effects of any delay to the best of its ability.
Council thanks the community for its patience with regard to this important community project.
