Lithgow Australia Day Program Announced
“Australia Day is an important opportunity to recognise the contribution of individuals within our community through the Citizenship and Sports Awards, as well as to welcome the newest Australian citizens to our region,” said Lithgow City Council Mayor Stephen Lesslie. “Given the strength of our sporting community it will also be wonderful to have Bob Turner join us this year as the Australia Day Ambassador.”
Bob Turner is one of Australia’s most respected sports personalities, best known for his basketball coaching and administration. Bob is renowned for his work with four NBL teams, and most recently was the driving force in the resurrection of the Sydney Kings.
An Official Ceremony will be hosted at Eskbank House Museum at 10am including a Citizenship Ceremony, the NSW Local Citizenship Awards and Sports Awards, and the Ambassador’s Address. Free entertainment will be provided by the Lithgow City Band and Lithgow Highland Pipe Band, and a free sausage sizzle will be available.
Celebrations will continue throughout the day across the region with free entry at the JM Robson Aquatic Centre, children’s rides, markets and music in Portland, wood-chopping and waterslides at Wallerawang, and the popular Billy Cart races in Rydal.
To find out about all the activities taking place across the region visit the Lithgow Tourism website.
