Council’s Home Library Service, which plays a crucial role in connecting and informing residents, will reach a milestone next month, delivering its 5000th item.

Launched by Blue Mountains Library in late 2022, the service delivers library items to residents who are unable to visit library branches due to frailty, illness, living with a disability, or carer responsibilities.

In June, the Home Library Service will deliver its 5000th item and pass 500 deliveries to 40 ongoing clients.

Every four weeks the Home Library Team puts together a personalised bundle of library items, carefully chosen to meet the interests and needs of each customer, and then delivers them to their door anywhere across the LGA.

Blue Mountains Mayor, Councillor Mark Greenhill, helped the Home Library Team prepare the most recent deliveries, praising their work and celebrating their achievements.

“It’s not that often as a politician you get to be this hands-on in providing help and comfort to people. I am genuinely honoured to play a small part in getting a delivery out to Home Library Service customers, and extremely proud to lead a Council that cares for their community in this way,” Cr Greenhill said.

“The Home Library Service’s purpose is to keep the most vulnerable and isolated residents and their carers informed, entertained and connected.”

The library offers an extensive range of resources including large and regular print books, talking books, magazines, music CDs and DVDs and members can either choose their own items, or let the Home Library Services team choose for them.

Residents who are homebound can sign up to be a Home Library Service member for free. The Home Library Service delivers to private homes, retirement villages and aged care facilities throughout the Blue Mountains Local Government Area.
