Kindlehill Launches Children’s Writing Festival
Families and children throughout the mountains are invited to participate in the Festival – revelling in the world of words and exploring some different forms in which we can compose our stories, thoughts, feelings and observations.
“Kindlehill values and encourages artistic expression,” explains Ms Lynn Daniel, Principal, Kindlehill School.
“As a school, we have a strong appreciation of literature and are delighted to be launching the Children’s Writing Festival to celebrate the creativity and insight that emerges through the written word – and share this with the broader community.”
Driven by ideas and imagination, the Festival promises a range of activities and workshops for children of all ages, from early primary through to high-school, each celebrating the art and joy of writing.
A Haiku Hut will teach the Japanese art of short-form poetry and observation; children’s author Patricia Bernard will run two interactive workshops; actress Georgia Adamson will be running drama workshops on the theme of writing; and, amongst other activities, a creative writing competition will run too.
“It is easy to be distracted, in today’s technology-driven society, from the delight and thoughtfulness that comes from writing well and sharing our stories,” continued Ms Daniel.
“The simple act of writing letters and postcards, exploring poetry, composing stories and uninterrupted reading is being challenged.”
“The Festival presents a wonderful opportunity for the young writers in our community to share their work and bring it to a wider audience.”
The Children’s Writing Festival is being held as part of the school’s Autumn Fair on Saturday 24th March, and is open to all families and children in the area.
