Blue Mountains City Council is looking for 11 new apprentices, trainees and cadets to kick start their career in early 2026.

Thanks to funding from the NSW Government’s Fresh Start program, we are hiring five apprentices including a painter, metal fabricator, sports turf worker and two civil construction workers.

An additional six Council-funded roles are also on offer, including a trainee arborist, civil engineering technician cadet, development engineer cadet, draftsperson cadet, environmental scientist cadet and fire safety cadet.

Blue Mountains Mayor Mark Greenhill said: “These apprenticeship, cadet and trainee roles are an incredible opportunity for locals looking for their first career or a new start.

“These roles offer a fantastic opportunity to build skills, gain real work experience and work within your own community, while being paid along the way.

“We’ve had many apprentices, cadets and trainees come into Council and they are always hard working and go on to bright futures. And many of them have continued their Council careers and are valued colleagues today.”

As an apprentice you will:?

  • Be paid while you learn from experienced mentors?.
  • Get hands-on experience with real projects?.
  • Build practical skills that employers value?.
  • Gain a qualification recognised across Australia?.
  • Contribute to meaningful work in your local area?.
  • Set yourself up for a successful future in local government?.

Applications close Friday 14 November. Applicants can find out more and apply on Council’s website: here

The Fresh Start program is part of the NSW Government’s broader goal of increasing the local government workforce by 15 per cent, by employing more apprentices and trainees. The program aims to provide genuine career opportunities in local communities while helping councils build strong, skilled and sustainable workforces.
