International Women's Day 2019 - Lithgow Library
Lithgow Library will be celebrating International Women's Day with a lunchtime speaker event on Friday 8 March from 12.00-2.00pm.
International Women’s Day is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. The theme for this year’s International Women’s Day is “Better the balance – better the world” which highlights the need for building a gender balanced world. Gender balance everywhere, in sports reporting, business, government, even everyday life as for some, being a woman means you are a second class citizen. #BalanceforBetter aims to raise awareness and share the responsibility of driving a gender balanced world.
Lithgow Library has an exciting lineup of speakers for International Women’s Day including Lithgow’s first female Fire Captain - Melanie Palmer, author Tessa Lunney, Mingaan Wiradjuri Aboriginal Corporation, lightning talks on women’s health and well-being and Cassandra Coleman will be launching the Women’s Advisory committee. The event will commence with a light luncheon at 12.00pm with the talks commencing at 12.30pm.
“Balance is not just a women’s issue, it’s a business issue, it is essential for economies and communities to thrive. The International Women’s Day event at the library will show how balance is happening in the Lithgow community,” said Lithgow Mayor Ray Thompson.
Bookings are essential for this event and can be made by contacting the library on 6352 9100.
