The Megalong Valley community is celebrating a major boost in connectivity and library access with the recent launch of the high-speed Satellite WiFi and the Library 2U Lockers.

These significant upgrades will help improve both digital access and community resilience.

The installation of Community Satellite WiFi at Megalong Valley Community Hall further strengthens the area's connectivity.

The high-speed internet service not only supports the hall’s role as an emergency management hub, but also fosters greater overall community engagement.

The importance of the service was highlighted earlier this year during the landslide on Megalong Road, which led to a two-week closure of the valley’s only sealed access road.

The Satellite WiFi played a crucial role in keeping residents connected during this challenging period.

Additionally, the Library 2U system introduces a convenient way for residents to engage remotely with library services.

By reserving items online or via phone, community members can now pick up their library resources from secure lockers located at key points within the valley every four weeks.

This system is set to greatly increase accessibility to a broad range of library materials, catering to the diverse needs of the community.

Councillor Suzie Van Opdorp represented Mayor Mark Greenhill at the opening event on 24 August and shared her enthusiasm about the new developments: “It is wonderful to witness the implementation of these technologies, which reflect our ongoing commitment to community resilience and bushfire recovery,” Cr Van Opdorp said.

“As our community grows and evolves, this innovative outreach initiative ensures that we continue to meet the increasing demand for library services, while also improving connectivity and support.”

Federal Member for Macquarie, Susan Templeman also expressed her support for the new services.

“I am thrilled to see the Library 2U Lockers and Satellite WiFi making such a positive impact in Megalong Valley,” Ms Templeman said.

“Thanks to the Black Summer Bushfire Grants, we have been able to support this project, which extends the reach of essential services and strengthens community ties.

“Recovery from natural disasters involves more than just rebuilding infrastructure—it’s about enhancing social connections and providing accessible resources to support ongoing resilience.”

The Library RFID and Outreach Project is funded by the Federal Government’s Black Summer Bushfire Grants program, underscoring a commitment to not only rebuilding but also enriching community life in the wake of adversity.
