HUBBUB kicks off at Springwood Library with a Book Week Parade, inviting everyone to dress as their favourite characters.
Springwood Library, Braemar House, and Blue Mountains Theatre + Community Hub will come together on Saturday August 17 for HUBBUB, a celebration of creativity and community spirit featuring free activities, artisan markets, exhibitions, workshops, and more.

"HUBBUB will celebrate recent Council projects such as the restoration and new creative spaces at Braemar Gallery, as well as the vibrancy of our creative community," said Blue Mountains Mayor, Cr Mark Greenhill.

"This event is a testament to the diverse artistic offerings we have throughout the mountains that cater to such a broad range of ages and tastes.”

HUBBUB kicks off at Springwood Library with a rollicking Book Week Parade, inviting everyone — especially the kids — to dress as their favourite characters from story and literature.

The Love Local Makers Markets will take over the Hub front forecourt, featuring handcrafted goods by local artisans, accompanied by live demonstrations, and free entertainment.

The Hub Upstairs Gallery will host the launch of the Changemakers: Crafting a Difference. The travelling exhibition from the Museum of Australian Democracy at Old Parliament House, will feature artist talks and a craftivism workshop during the event.

Braemar House, a significant building in Springwood's cultural heritage, will reopen its doors after an extensive restoration project. A colourful new exhibition will be featured in the renovated gallery, and the new Braemar Creative Spaces will debut as future artist studios and workshops.

As part of the reopening, two new works by sculptor Laurent Rivory—Tumbling Eagle and The Defiant—have been installed in the front gardens of Braemar House as part of Council's Public Sculpture Program, replacing his current work Terrae Omnium.

"It's wonderful to see our community embrace and engage in events like HUBBUB that inspire imagination and bring us together," Cr Greenhill continued.

““These events highlight the talent and craftsmanship of our local artists. HUBBUB is a fantastic opportunity for residents and visitors alike to support our creative economy while enjoying a day filled with arts, culture and community.”

In addition to the fantastic array of creative offerings, attendees can also grab a cup of delicious hot soup in the dining room with all proceeds going towards the Blue Fringe Art and Literature Festival to be held in October. The event is proudly supported by Springwood Neighbourhood Centre and Belong Blue Mountains and will celebrate the creativity of people with a lived experience of mental health. HUBBUB will take place from 9am at Blue Mountains Community Hub, 106 Macquarie Road, Springwood. This event is coordinated by Blue Mountains City Council’s Culture & Community Services Directorate in partnership with Blue Mountains Community Hub and is open to everyone.

Changemakers: Crafting a difference is a travelling exhibition from the Museum of Australian Democracy at Old Parliament House, sponsored by Commonwealth Bank as part of CommBank Next Chapter, a program helping victim survivors of financial abuse achieve long-term financial independence.
