The theme for History Week 2019 is ‘Memory & Landscapes’ and to celebrate, the Library is remembering Lithgow’s landscapes by holding an exhibition of panorama photographs, hosting a guest speaker and a history walk and talk of the CBD.

Guest speaker Mark Langdon, a renowned and published historian will speak on the local panorama photograph collection held at the library and on display during September. He will also speak on the process of panorama photography and the local photographers of the Lithgow area. Join us on Wednesday 4 September at 3:00pm for this free talk and afternoon tea.

Do you remember the terraces in Naomi, Mort and Eskbank Streets? Do you know where the original Town Hall stood? The second event for History Week is a walk and talk of the central business area on Saturday 7 September 2019 also lead by Mark Langdon. The walk and talk will follow the theme of Memory and Landscape and entitled ‘Lithgow’s Missing Landscape’. Join us to remember and learn what was here before and what remains of our historic centre.

The walk starts and finishes at the library, registration is at 11.30am for a 12:00pm start. The walk route includes Naomi Street, Mort Street from the Lithgow to Bridge Street corners, St Patrick’s Church, Waratah Street, Bridge Street, Eastern Main Street and Eskbank Street, finishing at the Library at about 1pm. Please make a booking by ringing the library on 6352 9100.

This event celebrates and increases community awareness of the cultural diversity and rich history and heritage of the Lithgow LGA.
