Help Fight to Save Woodford’s Memorial Park Footbridge

Woodford Memorial Park & Footbridge
The Woodford Academy Management Committee would like to bring to your attention a local heritage item that is under threat of demolition by Sydney Trains.

Woodford’s Memorial Park footbridge was delisted from Sydney Trains. S.170 Heritage register in 2009 with an inventory sheet that was erroneous in the minimal information provided (about 50 words), incomplete and did not include a photo or map of the location of the item.

Blue Mountains City Council are in the process of updating the heritage data sheet for 'WD010 Memorial Park Group' (link below), which has been modified to include the footbridge thanks to additional research by WAMC historians. The modified listing is a fascinating read & highlights the importance of the footbridge to both Memorial Park and heritage item ‘WD015 Wilson’s Glen’ walking track.

Sydney Trains made a submission to council in 2017 on the modified heritage item during the public exhibition period, but to date, do not have appeared to have considered the significant heritage impacts that the demolition of the footbridge will have on heritage items ‘WD010 Woodford Memorial Park Group’ or  ‘WD015 Wilson’s Glen’.

You are encouraged to consider supporting the retention of this local heritage item by signing the online petition.

'WD010 Memorial Park Group' - Draft Heritage Data Form

In other news from Woodford Academy, on Saturday 19 May 2018 at 1pm the Woodford Academy Management Committee will launch a new exhibition ‘Correspondence: The War Illustrated 1940-50’ by Vivienne Dadour.

Correspondence: The War Illustrated 1940-50’ is a 2018 National Trust Australian Heritage Festival Event.

As a volunteer managed property, all proceeds from Woodford Academy open days and events directly contributes to the conservation of the Blue Mountains oldest building.
