Have your say on future waste services
Blue Mountains residents are invited to have their say about future waste and recycling services across the region

Council is committed to transitioning towards zero waste and a circular economy.

The circular economyreduces waste by sharing, leasing, reusing, repairing, refurbishing and recycling existing materials and products as long as possible. In this way, we increase the life cycle of products and reduce the amount of waste sent to landfill.

Blue Mountains Mayor, Cr Mark Greenhill, said: “In 2021 Blue Mountains City Council became the first Council in Australia to recognise the Rights of Nature and incorporate them into strategic planning documents. Council’s intent is to be a best practice, environmentally responsible organisation in all aspects of its operations and decision making.

“Understanding how residents use current waste services and planning how best to manage services going into the future is a key part of this.

“Landfills are a finite resource, and for the Blue Mountains, our highest source of greenhouse gas emissions – which means they must be carefully and proactively managed. Continuing to reduce the amount of waste we send to landfill remains our focus. It is where will have the chance to make the biggest impact.”

By completing the Have You Say survey, residents can share what they value about current waste services and provide valuable feedback on what they would like to see for the future.
