Blue Mountains City Council has prepared a new draft Community Engagement Strategy, in line with local government legislation.

The Community Engagement Strategy identifies relevant stakeholder groups within the community and outlines how each group can provide input into the Council’s long-term planning and decision making.

The draft document will be on public exhibition for 28 days from 30 September to 27 October 2022.

Blue Mountains Mayor, Councillor Mark Greenhill, said: “Community engagement is important to Council – it helps us gain feedback from various community groups and individuals on many issues and is often valuable in our decision-making.

“While community engagement does not replace the decision-making powers of elected Councillors and Council’s management team, it does guide us in making well-informed decisions that reflect community support.

“We currently provide a range of avenues for the community to provide feedback, including online, in person and in writing, and we hope to broaden the demographic range of community members who usually provide feedback.

“If you would like to give feedback on how we currently engage with the community, I encourage you to look at the draft document and have your say through the channels outlined below.”

The draft Community Engagement Strategy 2022 supersedes the previous Community Engagement Strategy adopted by Council in 2021.

Following the outcomes of the public exhibition, Council will recommend final changes to the draft Community Engagement Strategy 2022 prior to its adoption.

The draft Community Engagement Strategy 2022 can be viewed online at Blue Mountains Have Your Say. Hard copies are also available at Blue Mountains Libraries and Council’s Katoomba Customer Contact Centre. Submissions will be received from 30 September until 27 October 2022.
