Blackheath is community garden central in the Blue Mountains, with three community gardens producing a year-round supply of produce and connecting the community through shared connection and learning experiences (and shared fruit and vegies!).

The three community gardens are Blackheath Community Farm, Cliff View Community Farm and Blackheath Community Kitchen Garden.

Blackheath Community Farm

Blackheath Community Farm was established in 2017 on a neglected piece of land made available by Mountains Christian College. It’s now transformed into a permaculture paradise producing food year-round and maintained by a dedicated team of volunteers. All are welcome to contribute; the Community Farm is open to volunteers every Sunday from 10am-1pm.

There are regular workshops and other events on site, with a focus on sharing knowledge and skills. The farm aims to grow community first, as well as locally acclimatised seeds in addition to the bountiful food harvest.

Blackheath Community Kitchen Garden

Located in the grounds of Blackheath Catholic Church, Blackheath Community Kitchen Garden welcomes new volunteers on their opening days which are Wednesdays 10am – 12pm or the first and third Saturdays of each month between 11am-1pm.

The garden composts scraps from local cafes and produces vegies and fruit alongside seeds that are shared among the community and also go towards soup lunches for those in need.

Cliff View Community Farm

The focus of Cliff View Community Farm is food production, 95% of which goes to Blackheath Area Neighbourhood Centre. Some also goes to the Salvos in Katoomba to add to food hampers for those in need.

The farm is no-dig and organic, and in addition to the highly productive gardens, has a focus on knowledge sharing and skill development, with regular workshops on site.

You can volunteer at Cliff View Community Farm on Thursday mornings from 9am.
