Golfer at Blackheath Golf & Community Club scores two holes in one in same round
Christo, playing alongside Carlos Donoso, had a hole in one on the 2nd and then had another hole in one later in the round on the 13th. Brilliant. I will be checking but I expect that has not happened at Blackheath Golf Club before today. Christo is a lovely fellow who deserves this success, and he will now go down in Blackheath Golf folklore.
Now let’s hear from the man himself.
I’m in golfing heaven now. It all seems so surreal, and I expect to wake up from this dream soon.
It was wonderful to have my good mate, Carlos Donoso with me and I think he has enjoyed this moment even more than me (if that is possible).
Sorry Darrin, did you say you wanted to hear how it all happened? Not a problem.
I came to the 2nd hole with a slight breeze into me. On the back tee I took out an 8 iron and hit it sweetly. Holding up slightly into the wind it was drifting beautifully towards the pin. It probably was just a metre short of the green and I could see it roll towards the hole and I was pretty sure I saw it go in.
As Carlos and I walked down I was confident but still apprehensive. Carlos videoed me as we got to the green and as you can imagine I was overjoyed to see it in the hole. Many thanks to Carlos for recording this historic moment for me. The question was, how could I concentrate for the rest of the round? The round was going well and we came to the 13th hole. Again there was a bit of wind around and I took out my 7 iron.
I hit it pure and Carlos instinctively said “Great shot “. The direction was just left of middle of the green. Again , I expect it landed just short on the smallish mound. We saw it take a sharp kick to the right , towards the pin. Again, I saw it tracking towards the hole and it looked to me as if it went in.
Geoff Cope , in the group behind had just finished playing the sprare hole and was waiting for us to get a move on. Geoff then said it is rare to get a second hole in one and advised it was probably 90 million to one. Carlos was ahead of me but when he saw it was in the hole he yelled out at the boys on the 4th tee ( Al Campbell & Ossie Antaw ) and told them that I had just scored my second hole in one today.
As I got closer to the green Al and Ossie graciously appaulded as I went to get the ball out of the hole. I was overwhelmed. When we got to the 18th I nearly chipped in for another eagle.
I suppose two eagles for the day should suffice. I ended up with 45 points for the day.
As we walked in from the 18ththe Captain was waiting nearby and I could not help but raise my arms in victory. Of course the Captain caught the moment.
This will be a day I will never forget and to do it alongside Carlos made it even more special.
Christo could not take his eyes off his two ‘hole in one ‘balls.
( Another interesting fact behind Christo’s achievements. The 7 iron that Christo used on the 13th was previously owned by Jack Walden. Jack sold it to Christo but before that Jack also had a hole in one with the same club
