Glenbrook Cinema Celebrates 50 Years in Style

The Curran family celebrating the 50th Anniversary of Glenbrook Cinema
Glenbrook Cinema, under the stewardship of the Curran family, celebrated its 50th Anniversary in style on Tuesday night with a Red Carpet Gala Event attended by a full house of loyal Glenbrook Cinema customers.

Open to the public, the Red Carpet Gala Evening was attended by many long term cinema customers, including Blue Mountains Mayor Mark Greenhill, congratulating Ron Curran and his family on the success of reaching such a milestone. Ron and Judy Curran purchased the cinema 50 years ago in 1968. Sadly Judy passed away in 1994. Over the past 50 years, Ron has continued to embrace the cinema full time.  The Curran family, including Ron’s three children, Alida, Ben and Tamara, are well known by local Blue Mountains cinema goers. Three generations of Currans have worked at the cinema and were all in attendance to enjoy the spectacular evening.

A good time was had by all as guests savoured drinks and canapes in the ajacent hall decorated with hundreds of movie posters from years gone by, while enjoying the sounds of Blue Mountains local, Liam Gray.

Guests then moved into the cinema auditorium where Mayor Mark Greenhill officially opened proceedings and thanked Ron for the priceless gift he has given the community. Guests then enjoyed a live performance from Blue Mountains Musical Society members rocking the house with three tunes from their most recent show "We Will Rock You".

The evening culminated in a special preview screening of a mystery movie scheduled for release next year. Excitement built in anticipation of the revelation of the movie, which, to the pleasure of those attending, turned out to be the new Australian film "Storm Boy". The cinema thanked Sony Pictures for this special advanced screening.

In true Glenbrook Cinema style, guests were offered a sweet treat as they departed the cinema. In a break from the usual tradition of Minties, the cinema managed to source some Lolly Gobble Bliss Bombs which play a special role in the movie.

Continuing with the celebrations to mark this spectacular 50 year milestone, Glenbrook Cinema is presenting a week long Festival of Favourite Films, featuring classic movies returning to the big screen. This is an ambitious festival featuring 19 different classics all for just $10 per movie.

Guests visiting the cinema during the festival can enjoy some old fashioned service and reminisce on the good old days of classic movies.

The festival runs from Wednesday 28th November through to Wednesday 5th December 2018.
