Future Finders Getting Creative with Business
Monica is a film-maker, business woman and business mentor based in Sydney who works with creatives to understand what it means to turn passion and talent into a business. Monica was engaged for the Future Finders program to work with Lithgow High School students to cover a number of entrepreneurship concepts, such as getting started, ideation, pitching a business idea, and SWOT analysis.
Like previous sessions run as part of the Future Finders program, participants really enjoyed the hands-on aspect of the workshop; as well as hearing first-hand experience of the ups, downs and challenges of being an entrepreneur.
During the ideation session students were encouraged to work in a ‘shark tank’ scenario; where they were required to develop, refine and define their business idea to their peers. Participants worked in teams and pitched their ideas to each other, with the most successful pitch being awarded to an entertainment venture.
Two more sessions will be delivered for young people through the Future Finders program; as well as one for the general public through the NSW Business Connect Roadshow in July. Anyone who is a creative business person or budding entrepreneur is encouraged to attend one of her sessions, you will be sure to come away with a greater understanding of creative business practice.
The Future Finders program will continue throughout 2018 with the next set of courses to be held in July. Young people aged 14-25 who are interested in attending a session can register via Council’s website.
People wishing to attend the NSW Business Connect Roadshow session in July can choose to learn about Monica’s top 10 business tips for creatives or marketing and strategy for creatives. Participants will also get the opportunity to network and link in with the Business Connect program to receive 4 hours of free business mentoring. Tickets will be $25 per person plus booking fee.
Further information regarding both the Future Finders and NSW Business Connect Roadshow sessions can be sought from Council’s Community Development Officers Kristy Lenon or Viktoria Gulabovski on 6354 9999.
