Australia’s only ARIA-nominated ‘chainsaw folk’ band are back in the Blue Mountains to launch their cinematic new album - SAT 12/10/24
Come see what must be the only band championed by both Brian Eno and Steve Albini!
Sydney’s ‘chainsaw folk’ The Crooked Fiddle Band are back to launch their fourth album, ‘The Free Wild Wind and the Songs of Birds’.

The follow-up to 2019’s ARIA-nominated ‘Another Subtle Atom Bomb’ takes in a more cinematic sound, touching on the band’s folk roots, and weaving a quiet beauty alongside the band’s signature energy. Rallying around the visceral violin playing of Jess Randall, The Crooked Fiddle Band bring their dynamic show, honed on festival stages the world over, to The Baroque Room for this album launch party.

Their music has been described by Brian Eno as “…completely surprising: the music is original and quixotic. I can’t say I’ve ever heard anything else like it!”?

“This band really is a national treasure and testament to the infinite talent that keeps manifesting in our backyard… this group have re-invented folk music as it is known… The Crooked Fiddle Band charmed the audience into submission.” – Vanessa Lahey, Australian Stage?

“When The Crooked Fiddle Band took to the stage, it was as though someone had put 10,000 volts through the dance floor.” – BEAT magazine.?

“AN IRRESISTIBLE FORCE OF NATURE.” – Tony Hillier, The Australian

“It is rare to hear genuinely original music these days, but when you listen to The Crooked Fiddle Band, your mouth will drop open.” – Bruce Elder, SMH

“Absolutely jam-packed with mind-blowing, face-melting, jaw-dropping, head-spinning moments” – Jazmin O’sullivan, themusic

“Their concept, fusing traditional styles and instruments with a modern, eclectic and experimental approach is ambitious, yet their dedication and commitment have been rewarded with longevity and international reach that has inspired many other musicians, myself among them.” – Steve Albini
