Free to Roam Exhibition Opening – Natasha Daniloff and Raewyn Proctor
“Then we must do a painting trip there. You’ll love it!’
Artist Natasha Daniloff once again teams up with friend and abstract artist Raewyn Proctor in an exhibition at Katoomba’s GalleryONE88 Fine Arts located at the centre of Katoomba’s Art Precinct. Their current exhibition, ‘Free to Roam’ was inspired by a joint painting trip to Hill End which reminded the two artists of the importance of traversing a visually different landscape and of opening-up ones arts practice and processes.
Daniloff and Proctor explored the village and its surrounding gullies and lookouts, meeting up to discuss art, artists, landscape and history. New perceptions and ideas were shared, critiqued, selected, discarded. In this way, the landscape of Hill End became pivotal for the upcoming exhibition, 'Free to Roam', as the central nucleus around which the two enlightened artists oscillated. However, each artist depicts their exploration of the many places they experienced, both in Hill End and beyond, as captured in their paintings and drawings as artists with a free pass...to roam.
Raewyn’s abstract works on paper in ink, watercolour, pastel, fire charcoal, onsite dust and dirt, and found objects, seek to express her visceral response to place. Natasha is showing paintings and drawings based on a number of residencies however she also works on site in gouache, ink and found materials, often picking up sticks, bark and other materials that can expand the range of marks and bring the work closer to its subject.
GalleryONE88's Directors, Victor and Sharon Peralta are excited to have Natasha and Raewyn return as featured artists at GalleryONE88. Victor, the curator at Gallery ONE88 says; "Here at GalleryONE88 we exhibit a huge variety of artistic disciplines, subjects and genres. What is exciting about this particular exhibition, however, is the marrying of the liberation the artists felt during art-residencies, with the freedom of gesture or mark-making in the resultant works—'Free to Roam' indeed as both a literal physical inhabiting of the geographic and of the roaming across the canvas or paper substrate in their paintings and drawings.'
'Free to Roam' opens from Tuesday 19th June to 1st July with the official opening and celebration on Saturday 23rd June 2018, from 2-4pm, to be opened by friend and former colleague of the artists, Mark O’Flynn.
