Sound Foundation 10 week music course
If writing and recording music is your dream, then an Australian charity is offering young people an opportunity of a lifetime in Penrith over the next school term.

Aspiring artists aged between 13 and 21 can take part in a free 10 week music and mentoring program run by Musicians Making a Difference (MMAD), beginning on the 14th May at 450 High Street, Penrith.

MMAD is a national charity organisation that wants to see every young person have someone believe in them, and gives young people the opportunity to reach their full potential. When Mirrae Youssef heard about MMAD, she knew instantly she had to be involved. “It’s so important when you’re young to have people believing in you. The "Sound Foundations" program offers mentors, such as myself, who will help you achieve your dreams.” Mirrae is the Sydney coordinator and also teaches vocals and performance in the program.

The “Sound Foundations” course will give you the basics of songwriting, production, recording, the music industry, as well as equipping you with some tools to have a foundation in realising young people's full potential. “Everything you need to know about music is in this 10 week course and it’s absolutely free,” says Evan Lawrie, National Sound Foundations Co-ordinator and mentor at MMAD. “Our vision is to provide a supportive, creative environment where young people can be themselves. Participants may then continue with other opportunities at Sony or Universal music studios, who are generously supporting the program.”

In other MMAD programs across Australia it is common to get a visit from MMAD ambassadors such as Justice Crew, Bliss N Eso, Casey Donovan. Prinnie Stevens will pop in to the Penrith program, just to give that extra bit of support and inspiration to young people.

Some young people from the Sound Foundations program also have an opportunity to apply for the Sony Star program as well as the Universal Rise up program. “This course can be a game changer for many young people and really is a once in a lifetime opportunity,” Dominic Brook Co Founder and CEO
of MMAD stated. Those interested in registering for the MMAD Sound Foundations Program can visit their website. The program is run across Australia.
