Free Breakfast to Showcase How an Untapped Talent Pool Can Boost Business

Blue Mountains City Council will host a FREE breakfast on Thursday 26 October to show how employing people with disability can make good business sense.

The breakfast event for business leaders, managers, hiring managers, recruitment staff and human resource professionals will offer information, training and resources.

Blue Mountains City Mayor Cr Mark Greenhill said he is pleased to be a project champion for the worthwhile ‘Nepean Jobs for All’ initiative.

“This awareness and capacity building project encourages businesses to employ people with a disability and is a joint initiative of Blue Mountains, Hawkesbury and Penrith City Councils, with funding through the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS),” Cr Greenhill said.

“The project highlights the real benefits that employing people with a disability can bring, and addresses some common myths and stereotypes.”

The event will provide an overview of wage subsidies, equipment modification schemes and other forms of support to employ people with disability.

"It's good to know something is being done to address the anomaly that Australians with disability are more likely to be unemployed compared to those without disability,” Cr Greenhill said.

“Educating employers that employing people with a disability can actually benefit their organisation and cost them no more than employing people without disability, is a step in the right direction.”

Similar business breakfast events are being held in Penrith and Windsor.
