Council has released the final design for the Mount Victoria Memorial Park playspace, and construction is soon to begin on the upgrade to the park’s court.

The $1 million upgrade, funded by the Australian Government,  aims to make the park more welcoming and inclusive for everyone.

The new playspace and improved court will offer a greater variety of activities for people of all ages and abilities, while also encouraging more visitors to stop and enjoy everything Mount Victoria has to offer.

Blue Mountains Mayor Mark Greenhill said the final design is a direct result of the strong community response during consultation.

“We heard from a wide range of community members, and that feedback has shaped the outcome,” Cr Greenhill said.

“We’ve been able to include many of the ideas people asked for, from improved accessibility to play elements that suit a range of ages and abilities.

“While not every suggestion could be incorporated, the final design reflects what we heard from the local community.

“I want to thank everyone who took the time to be involved, whether you came to a pop-up session, filled out a survey, or gave us your thoughts through community or school groups.

“Your input has made a real difference, and it’s helped us create a space that will better serve Mount Victoria for years to come.”

Federal Member for Macquarie Susan Templeman said, “This investment is about providing an improved playspace for locals of all ages, as well as creating a place that will encourage visitors to stop and spend time in Mount Victoria.

“I look forward to seeing the community’s input into the final design of the children’s play area, and of the work beginning on the new multi-use court.

Construction on the court is scheduled to begin on 25 August 2025, weather permitting. From this date, the playspace will become a construction zone and will be temporarily closed to the public.

While the designs are almost final, there is still the potential for minor adjustments to the playspace design prior to construction commencing if necessary.

In response to community feedback, the existing swing set near the car park will not be removed and will also remain accessible during the construction phase.
