Faulty Tales Plays to Rave Reviews
Featuring a whole new script, Faulty TalesTM, promises a brilliant night of food and entertainment for new and regular audiences alike. The show positions itself as a modern twist on the BBC classic. The talented cast of local actors focus on re-creating everyone’s favourite characters – bringing them into the present day and cleverly lampooning aspects of Australian society and culture as they do.
This seems to be a formula that works, with 2018 marking the 23rd year that Faulty TalesTM has been entertaining audiences in the Blue Mountains to regular rave reviews. This in itself is quite a feat, and it’s one that the cast is extremely proud of.
“We call it the ‘mousetrap of the mountains,’” says Marnie O’Mara who has played the role of Cibil for the last fourteen years. “There are very few dinner theatre shows that have had such longevity.”
Managing Director of Boxboards Theatre, Matthew Barry (who also portrays the role of Bazil) attributes the production’s enduring popularity to the interactive nature of the show itself.
“We bring the audience into the world of their favourite TV show,” said Mr. Barry. “From the moment you are met at the door to the end of the evening, patrons feel as though they are actually staying at the infamous hotel.”
This year, the familiar faces of Ms. O’Mara (Cibil) and Mr. Barry (Basil) are joined onstage by Kate-Michelle Simms as Pollie and Scott Wotherspoon as Manwell. Robert Hall will also join the cast as a mysterious guest whose appearance throws the hotel’s staff into a frantic frenzy.
For those local community members who have not yet booked a visit to television’s most infamous hotel, the good news is that there are still limited tickets available for the production’s last two weeks of performances from 27 July – 4 August. Tickets for these performances can still be purchased online.
If you still need convincing to take the plunge, then take a look at these reviews by audience members (collected via direct speech, email or social media).
