Exciting opportunity for local youth to be a voice for their community
Youth Council is a unique opportunity to be a voice for yourself and young people in the Blue Mountains. If you are aged 12 – 18 years and want to be a force for positive change in your community, then Youth Council needs you.
Blue Mountains Mayor Mark Greenhill expressed his support for Youth Council as a rare opportunity for young people to have a voice and make their mark.
“Joining Youth Council is a fabulous opportunity for young locals to raise the voice of youth in a world that too often forgets that our youth aren’t just our future, but also have much offer our community now,” Cr Greenhill said.
“Youth Councillors work on initiatives to increase opportunities and improve services for young people. And they also work with Council staff and elected Councillors to share ideas and opinions.
“What’s really special is that the key focus for Youth Council is determined by its members each year, which means these brilliant young leaders from our community are given the agency to decide what matters most for them now and into the future.”
The Blue Mountains Youth Council is a leadership and advocacy program open to 20 members. The Youth Council meets monthly to raise issues, participate in consultations and develop projects that benefit the local environment and community. Successful applicants remain members for two years after which they can reapply if they wish.
The Youth Council is a unique opportunity to gain an understanding of the role of local government and advocacy, while also being a standout feature on your resume.
Previous Youth Councils focused on the environment and climate change and creating new opportunities for youth and families to connect.
No experience is required. If you are between 12 – 18 years old, live or study in the Blue Mountains and want to make a difference, join the Blue Mountains Youth Council.
Nominations are open until Friday 24 January 2025. Find out more about Youth Council and apply online: here
