Blue Mountains Library is running a FREE forum to help parents and guardians of students in Year 11 and 12 understand the HSC, ATAR and beyond.

The forum, to be held on 11 April, will feature education and career professionals who can assist parents and guardians unpick some of the baffling aspects of the HSC marking system and make plans for beyond Year 12.

The expert panel will offer advice on:

  • How the HSC marking is compiled.
  • What the ‘ranking’ system means.
  • How to apply for Council and industry traineeships.
  • How to make University applications.
  • What TAFE can offer and how TAFE courses can be pathways to University.

Recent reports reveal that only one in four domestic students progress to University using an ATAR (Australian Tertiary Admission Rank) and that there are many different pathways to explore.

The forum is a precursor to a series of HSC workshops to be held with local tutors and teachers, from Wordsmiths, at Blue Mountains Library in Term 2.
